Dental Crowns Sydney

Restore the strength, shape and function of a damaged tooth

Dr. Choi

Why Do I Need a Dental Crown?

When a tooth is severely decayed, fractured or weakened following a root canal, its structural integrity is compromised. At Axis Dental, we provide structurally focused dental crowns designed to restore the strength, shape and function of a damaged tooth, protecting your natural smile and supporting your long-term oral health.

A dental crown acts as a custom-made, tooth-shaped "cap" that is securely bonded over your existing natural tooth, providing a highly durable outer shield to prevent further deterioration and restore a natural bite.

Types of Dental Crowns We Offer

At Axis Dental we operate our own comprehensive on-site clinical laboratory, our dental technicians work closely with our clinical team to custom-craft your restoration to precise specifications. Depending on the location of the tooth, your bite force and your cosmetic goals, we offer several high-quality materials

  • Monolithic Zirconia: Milled from a single, solid block of zirconia, these crowns offer exceptional strength and durability. They are highly resistant to chipping and fracture, making them an ideal choice for back teeth (molars) that endure the heaviest biting and chewing forces.

  • Layered Porcelain on Zirconia: This option provides an excellent balance of durability and lifelike beauty. It combines the robust, structural strength of a zirconia core with the highly natural, translucent aesthetics of hand-layered porcelain on the outside.

  • E.max (Lithium Disilicate): A premium all-ceramic material renowned for its outstanding aesthetic properties. E.max crowns mimic the natural light reflection and translucency of natural enamel, making them a highly popu

The Axis Dental Approach

Going to the dentist can be intimidating, and we deeply understand the fears, anxieties and hesitations that often keep people away. We built our practice by listening to our patients and catering specifically to what we know you actually want and deserve:

  • Results-Driven Planning: By understanding what patients want, we can utilise all our available resources to ensure they get the result that they asked for. We utilize advanced digital scanning, radiography and clinical exams to precisely map the area we are working on. This allows us to create clear, customised clinical roadmaps designed to support your oral health goals through a detailed assessment of suitability.

  • Advanced Colour Matching: We utilise the latest in dental technology, including Optishade and Matisse software, to capture the exact colour and translucency of your natural teeth. Working directly alongside our in-house laboratory technicians, this ensures the closest possible aesthetic match and minimises the need for repeat visits for shade corrections.

  • Expert Understanding: We offer compassionate, judgment-free care from a team that actually listens to your concerns and validates your fears.

  • Efficient Treatment Times: By utilising comprehensive, in-house capabilities, including our on-site lab - we respect your schedule and ensure high-precision execution, minimising wait times for your final restoration.

  • Transparent Pricing: You will receive honest, fixed quotes provided upfront, so you are never left guessing about the total investment of your care.

Potential Complications & Considerations

Receiving a dental crown is an invasive restorative clinical procedure and we believe in total transparency to help you prepare for your treatment. While driven by strict clinical protocols, potential complications can include:

Tooth Sensitivity

It is common to experience temporary sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures immediately following the preparation of the tooth or the placement of the new crown. This is temporary, but may take anywhere from hours to possibly days to settle down.

Nerve Irritation
Nerve Irritation

The process of preparing a tooth for a crown can sometimes irritate the underlying nerve. In some cases, this may lead to irreversible pulpitis, which would require a future root canal treatment. We minimise the risks of this technically by ensuring that the tooth is never overheated, as well as only working on teeth that require crowns.

Crown Damage or Chipping

While materials like monolithic zirconia are extremely durable, restorations featuring layered porcelain or E.max can occasionally chip, fracture or loosen over time - particularly if subjected to heavy clenching or teeth grinding (bruxism). We minimise this risk by ensuring your bite is balanced, that there are no unnecessary stressors on the teeth and by adequately educating our patients on the expectations.

Decay Under the Crown

If plaque accumulates at the margin where the crown meets the natural tooth, secondary bacterial decay can develop underneath the restoration, requiring further intervention. This is minimised by ensuring meticulous tooth preparation with scanning, to ensure manufacturing yields a perfect margin for a flush fitting surface.

Gum Irritation

The gum tissue surrounding the crowned tooth may experience temporary inflammation or irritation following the procedure. This is again minimised by clean tooth preparations, perfect fitting surfaces, as well as reducing overhangs on the teeth.
